The Ballad of Iltopia
The Ballad of Iltopia is a visual representation of mature situations
innercity children face in their everyday lives. For inner city youth,
we see an ailing population of misguided individuals. The values
that the average American is expected to learn by the time they
reach adulthood are absent. Among other things, young men are
growing up having never tossed a baseball around with their fathers.
This leads me to ask: the following questions: Who is gaining from
all this? Who gains from the liquor store on every corner? Who
gains from constant death and despair? Who gains from the blatant
ignorance that continues to plague my community? With these illustrations,
I aim to provide a different perspective to the evergrowing
topics: race relations, interpersonal conflicts, and self efficacy.
